Is the Internet a Powerful Tool?

Is this a powerful tool or a waste of time?

For a fairly recent invention it has taken off faster than any other method of communication. Just look back to the written word and the printing press which produced newspapers.

Newspapers are now available on line as well as magazines, even the telephone works through the internet, Skype for example. We can store documents on line as well as our photograph albums, even television can be viewed on our computers.

And yet there are a lot of people who can get by without it, and there is no problem with that.

Yes we still read books and newspapers and open up our photograph albums and there will always be room for these, especially during power cuts.

But how many people ask questions and get very quick answers via the internet? Our human race has developed to such an extent that we would be hard pressed to get by without it.

One major issue is speed as there are a lot areas where the speed cannot handle the size of the material. Loads of excuses come out regarding the old copper wire for the phones and who will pay for the new optic fibres?

When it was the old dial up we knew nothing else but now we look to down loading videos and large documents. This upsets the post office and dvd rental business’.

An option to using the phone line is wireless which works well provided there are no large trees or large buildings in the line of site.
